ROAD TO INDEPENDENCE GALA 2008 A STUNNING SUCCESS
Northern Virginia Family Service
(NVFS) hosted its annual "Road to Independence Gala"
on May 9, at the Hilton McLean/Tysons Corner. At the
event, Congressman Tom Davis and anchorwoman JC Hayward
of WUSA-9 were honored with "Community Champion" awards.
These awards commemorate their distinguished service
on behalf of families and children in our area. The
Gala also featured live and silent auctions, with
proceeds benefiting the vital community programs offered
by NVFS. The event raised over $290,000 of unrestricted
funds for NVFS.
"We thank our sponsors, volunteers, donors and community partners for their outstanding efforts in extending the reach of NVFS into our community," said NVFS President and CEO Mary Agee.
NVFS has had much to celebrate over the past year. In addition to continuing the programs and services that help over 22,000 people each year, NVFS has also been given new opportunities due to its long and successful track record. NVFS was selected as one of only two local non-profits to win Bank of America's Neighborhood Builder's Award grant. NVFS has also been selected to oversee and operate the Arlington Head Start early learning program, which will be opening its doors in late June. Another significant landmark for NVFS was its assumption of the services previously provided by the Center for Multicultural Human Services in April. This expands NVFS' reach in delivering mental health services and related programs to the multicultural community, with new expertise in 30 languages.
